Go Up Go Down

Found this last night. I had to dig for it, and I've never dug a good target this deep before. Usually turns out to be a can, or scrap metal.
Appears to be about 10k gold chain with had no tarnish  on it or corrosion, unlike the Cameo mounting, which suffered tarnishing on the backside as well as a slight bend apparently from the weight of heavy machinery or lots of feet over time. the material the cameo is made from is in excellent condition. My First Mexican Dime, Sorry the picture aint so great. Woo Hoo, Can't wait to do some more digging. Happy weekend hunting to all.

Beautiful Piece!
   The cameo itself is carved from stone, so holds up well.
Did  you test the chain?  Hi Karat Gold will not 'tarnish or corrode' under normal circumstances,
Lower Karat gold will show some pitting over time in saltwater as the copper and base metals are leached out..
  From the pix, it appears you have a gold filled bezel and a karat gold chain.
 $15 will get you a 5 metal test kit on Epay, every detectorist needs one!
What year is your mex?  they are nice looking coins, is it a Silver?
                                     Great find!  Congrats  Wink

I'll have to invest in a gold test kit for sure. Probably wait until I have more gold though. The chain certainly didn't tarnish at all. I'm thinking now, that it's likely 14k, but the test will determine that.

The Mexican dime is dated 2000. Don't believe it's silver and I don't know the composition. I doubt it's of any value outside the exchange rate.

Anytime I dig something I don't immediately recognise, my excitement level peaks. Night time hunts like I do regularly, sometimes lead to excitement for no reason whatsoever, but hey, it's fun.

Love the mexican Eagle!{alt}
  My $15 kit tests for silver/plat/10-14-18 & 22K Gold,  I use it all the time,
 without it, I probably would have scrapped this odd silver find,
had a hunch from it's color, but who'ed have thunk  Crazy

Muy coin is not  silver in color. I"m sure it's likely to be cheap mexican clad. Unless they are making coins out of Gold. That would be nice.
