hi all i have just bought a garrett ace 250 from goldfrog and im well pleased with it i went to a friends who has a bit of woodland and found a eley no.12 cartridge,a matchbox super g.t 1985 and some sort of bottle cap

I love my Ace 250 and the 10x14 Excellerator DD coil is a great add on if you ever upgrade it. It is a loud machine and will let you know when you find a coin especially if it is on the surface...good luck and HH......Warren

i have been looking at other coils and was wondering do they add much more weight or are they made from lighter material

They definitely add more weight (larger coil = more wire) which throws the balance off a bit. Builds a whole new set of muscles unless you use a suspension rig like the "swinging thing".

Yes, it is. (and I actually meant to write "Swingy Thingy"---the most popular brand). Unless you go really large, the weight itself is not too bad, but it throws the balance off. Young, muscular people, might not notice it, but old folks like me certainly do.
