Hello there John,

I am headed to an 1812 site myself but not till next weekend. I'll be wearing long sleeves or skeeter repellent if I have to.

Good luck!

Hi Dayhiker,
I have tried the repelants, they do work, but the terrain is hard work and having to keep re-applying it is a pain, and then carrying fluids is just another burden.
Quite the whiner ain't I?
I do have some older houses lined up, real close to coffee shops, so they become more appealing during the summer.
I am also going to England this summer "no bugs" so I will get out while there.
Lets see what happens on Sat.......HH.....Johnnn

Hi John,

Not a whiner, sounds like you just like to travel light.  :-).  Something I have to get better at.

That's pretty good planning.... coffee shops and all.  London sounds like a great place for it too.  What will you hunt for there?

I can't wait to get out myself next weekend.  I have been out a few times in the park to familiarize myself with the detector but next week will be first attempt to do any real relic hunting.

So good hunting tomorrow!  Hope you get good pics to show.

HI Dayhiker/all.
The weather was inclement today so didn't want to waste a trip, we are going out on Monday it is going to be cool but no rain.
In England my family are all from London, and there are many area's that produce coins of all ages although I haven't found anything very special I have got coins from Charles II up to the present, and of course tons of shrapnel from the AA guns WW2, but even that is collectable.....HH....Johnnn

I have a friend who works in the Old City of London.  Just up the road from his office is a park, which according to him was a plague pit, a place where the dead were buried in the middle ages when a plague swept through London.   He is not into detecting, but is always telling me I should visit and bring my machine for a go through the park.    He says the park gets a great many visitors and has for many years, so I suppose a large number of old finds would be possible.   I am not too sure what the London authorities would say.   Don't need an official visit from a "bobby."

Hi Oldcoon,
There are several burial sites from the plague and I wouldn't recommend a detecting visit as I'm sure you would be politely moved on.HOWEVER!! if the bad old days of "smog" ever returned it wouldn't be a problem as no one would be able to see you. I personally know what to do there and what I can get away with, but you are right these parks would be loaded with coins from all over the place.
HH........Johnnn
