Nice finds. I am starting to pay more attention to the trees myself.

That ring is "cooler than the other side of the pillow"   Smiley

Trees are great people magnets.  I have found some of my oldest coins in the bark of trees where kids probably stuck them for fun.  In my opinion, your best areas of search around old trees are within five to fifteen feet  from the trunk.  However, my best tree find was a quart canning jar with the lid sealed with wax that was buried under a huge tree root of a cottonwood tree about three feet from the trunk.  It took me almost two hours to chop through the root and dig out the jar.  It was well worth it for it was 3/4 full of silver coins dated between 1886-1925. All quarters and dimes.  That was back in 1984.

The story I posted on my blog about David Levy's cache in Boise, Idaho was found about 15 feet from the trunk of a tree.  He actually had three caches near this tree.  That story is posted at

Yes remembering some trees  have been around well before first settlement .  And sometimes people planted trees to commemorate special events sometimes burying things when they plant the tree
In Japan there is a park where newly married couples plant a tree on their wedding day .  with the belief that the long life of the tree means a long marriage . and every year they got back to that place for their holiday.
                                                                          Kiss
Maybe hopeing some detectorist hasnt dug it up or some crank hasnt stuck a bit

of round-up on the tree  Cry
