Go Up Go Down

New Year's Eve, I found this medal from the Sacred Heart Auto League in a parking strip near downtown Miami, Fl. It's an organization started by a guy in 1955 to promote safe, spiritually minded driving. Not a bad idea.

New Year's Day, I found a 2" silver pendant of Christ with the Sacred Heart emblem on his chest. It was in a parking strip by a school in south Miami-Dade County. Weight: .47 of an ounce. The photo does not do it justice, it's quite lovely.

I have never found a "Sacred Heart" item before.

Last weekend, in another parking strip in south miami-dade, I found this cool silver pendant with a garnet. I think it was actually part of an earring. The Rosie was in another parking strip close to that one. The 50 caliber bullet came from a strip in the Shenandoah section. The eagle "GDC" token- Green Duck Company - was found in Coral Gables.

Scaupus, All are nice finds. Now if you had found them on Christmas Day I would say God was talking but New Years, you were just lucky. You seem to like parking strips. I haven't paid much attention to parking strips although I found one in front of a middle school that was full of clad coin and one silver dime.
The parking strip was put there in 1996 or so when the school was built so the dime had to be in the soil before the School was built. The soil was probably hauled in from another construction site. I've been watching what builders do with topsoil when they put up a new house. It's important to me because so often I get to a house demolition site right after the demolition crew and builder have scrapped up the topsoil and hauled it away. Some of it is piled up on other vacant property for use or sale in the future.  Some of it is used for fill dirt on other new house sites. Some is put back down after the house is built but builders won't do that if it contains roots and rocks and junk which it usually does. Some is put through a machine that screens out all the roots and cans and bricks and is resold as topsoil. I purchased 4 yards of this "reground" topsoil for my garden and went over it with my detector (of course). I found a wheat and some iron suggesting it came from an old house site. I'm sure a lot of this soil winds up in parking strips too. Keep up the good work and may to glint of silver catch your eye.

Older american pennies have a stalk of wheat on the back (on both left & right) and hence, they call them wheaties..... Coloma Gold
