Yahoo that looks good and only one bucket of gravel of tailing. We use to do that on the diamond fields when the sea was rough to pass the time, we often found small diamonds of 0.5 to 1 carat.

Thank you for the vote of confidence. I panned out the gallon of dirt I had taken home but did not find as much as my friend did, but I chalk that up to the way we sifted the gravel. He used a much finer screen than I did, so he had actually less waste material than I did. We are going back in a few days, after the ground dries out a bit. We just had the biggest rainfall in the area since 1895, (3 to 5 inches - normal .5 to 1 inch) and things are very wet. I plotted out the area of this mud flow from this ancient volcano, and it covers an area 500 ft wide by several miles long and covered in overburden of 3 feet to 15  feet. There is enough material there for our whole club of 1000 members to mine for the rest of their lives. Definitely a great find.

Carl

A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.

Well sounds to me like you'll never be happy No water you cry then you get water and you still cry  Grin Grin Just kidding looking on the bright side of things though this water will have removed most of the dirt on top of the gold so less panning for you to do.

But just think of all those bits of gold that have been stirred up and redistributed after years of being hidden just out of reach.     (of course, they could be hidden just out of reach somewhere else now).

I believe that this is a mixture of optimism with some pessimism LOL
