Go Up Go Down

Went to a new site today. A house built in the 1960s and abandoned when they widened the road in 2005. Typical here in Florida. When they build a main road or widen one speculators come in and buy the houses along it and they sit empty until the property is bought for commercial use. I didn't expect to find anything old but I was bored and tried it out. The guy that lived there was an electrician. The front yard and driveway was covered with electrical connectors and bits of copper wire.  Another thing about him. He broke his pop tops in half. I just hate that. On my F75 they ring just like a nickel. The driveway was covered with coins and poptops. I spent about two hours scratching through the gravel for them. You can see how many half pop tops I had to dig to find 5 nickles. The whole pop top ring different than a nickel. Half pop tops give a 32 and whole ones 35 or so. The second photo is the rest of the clad and some junk.

I have to wonder about humanity in general. Scientists responded to the complaints about pull tabs on cans being left everywhere after aluminum cans replaced steel cans. Aluminum was more easily recycled and the pop tops were intended to make it into the recycle bin along with the cans. The scientists set engineers on the task to create a can with an opener that would stay with the can. Years of research, design and testing created the wonderful cans we have today where the opening device remains on the can. No more searching for that can opener!

Hooray!!!

Then along comes the resurrection of Neanderthal men (and women) who remove that wonderful engineering creation and throws it on the grass or on the beach. Just lovely.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

G.D. Very well said! There is something the scientist didn't figure on. Human nature.

LOL!

Back not so long long, long ago, we didn't have these problems.

All Beer, Soda, Milk bottles had cash value.

No broken bottles on the sides of the roads then.

Steel cans would rust away in most areas!  Not here in the south west.

That's still the case in some states.   And if certain "more enlightened and more concerned" individuals had their way, we'd all have to abide by those rules.

In the meantime, the pop-tops add up.   5 pounds of aluminum is 5 pounds of aluminum whether cans without pop-tops or pop-tops without cans.

I got to admit sometimes I do just get fed up and disc that kind of signal out, not often, but sometimes I do,  AARRRGGhhh, pull tabs and cans that have been shredded by mowers.  Angry

Homefire, When I was camping in the big bend I came across a model T in a gully. Looked like it had been there for years. Everything was stripped but the frame, dash, windshield, and sheet metal. What was left was still in good condition. I kept brass wing nuts that held the windshield for souverniers. Wish I had a MD. at that time.

Bugar, I go through this thing where I'll dig pull tabs for a while and then I get tired of it and quit then I realize I might be missing jewelry and go back to digging them. gambol Cool
