Nice going John. That grape shot looks fairly big. In the battle area your looking in, what size bore would it have been shot from?

Hi Mudflap,
Grape shot was fired as a "cluster" probably a hundred small iron balls like a large shot gun I do not know the bore size of the cannon but I think all sizes of cannon would use this type pf shot........HH........Johnnn

Hi Nick,
Its the biggest piece of lead I have ever found and as usual all the questions arise what was it doing 1/2 mile in the bush I wouldn't like to carry it, getting it out was hard going, but we detectorists have to play the "green" game removing anything that is a pollutant and very especially LEAD I have about 110 lb of lead mostly musketballs see the pic...........HH..........Johnnn

There are allot of musketballs there. How long have you been collecting them?
I do the same with lead also remove all metal but big pieces of iron or aluminum.
I should one day take it to the scrap metal yard. Sure I have enough to buy myself a slab of beer.

Hi Nick,
I have been finding musket balls for the last 30 years including last Sunday don't find as many as I used to, they are from a war fought here in 1812
and the hardest thing to bring out is a cannon ball especially when you find 6 like I did on one occasion and early in your hunt.
I do not bring out very large pieces of Iron "unless I find an actual cannon" that would be fun!! LOL .........HH.....Johnnn

I see. But if you don’t take them someone else will.
And according to Murphy, the guy that made Murphy’s law.
You will need them and you want have them when you find the cannon.
