No, not mainland Japan. I just working the beaches of Okinawa. I cleaned the beaches pretty good. I day before I left, I could'nt find a nickel.  Cry ha ha, John

Dan, yuppp. I only had one guy make a big deal of my detecting. He was a tourist from mainland and he was complaining to the lifeguards about me. They had seen me there before and they told him to shut up. I had turn-in a necklace with the Virgin Mary on it the day before to one of them. It was made of copper and I figured it would bring me luck to do the right thing. On occasion I would bring something to the lifeguards. I found it best to mostly hunt at night. No one will bother you then. During the day, some Japanese would ask me what I was doing. Once I let some kids help me dig and that was a bad idea, next thing I knew I had about 20 kids and a crowd of 10 adults. They were in the way and I could not even swing the detector. After that it was lone wolf for me. I went to the police station and asked them if I had to turn in items I found on the beach, they told me if it was of significant value, it needs to be turned in. Hummmmm...However, you can pick it up after 6 months if no one claims it.
