Heres some stuff I found while trying to learn how to use my new at-pro. Its got a bigger learning curve than the whites I've owned. Thats an Episcopal High School (Alexandria, Va) backmarked 1840 -1850 waterbury production date.

Boy that's a Honking Knife there.   Bowie Style.

Hell a bit of Electrolysis and it may still be usable.

My self , I would think it cool to use a knife that old.   Rust Pits and all.

I'm still a little leery about cleaning buttons. There is just a hint of silver gilt on it. Usually I just soak'em in warm water then take a soft tooth brush to them.

Try the Alluminum Foil/Baking Soda thing on one.

With the Copper or brass in the Button Don't Use the Salt.   Just Baking Soda.

yeah, I can understand being careful with them.  Could be my problem is the magnification, and not the cleaning.   (maybe I need to see the wife about some new glasses or a bigger monitor)   And homefire's trick there is pretty safe.
