Go Up Go Down

From a military camp at a NM mining community established to train apache scouts and to assist in the Pancho Villa Punitive Expedition of the early 1900's.  The coinage here is very scarce, but there was a lot of independent mining going on, and literally tons of silver were taken from this area.  There are a lot of smelting leftovers laying around and a lot of crude ingotization of high grade silver ore took place (Upper left).  yesterdays high grade silver take was over 8 ounces, plus some decent and somewhat rare collectible militaria.

thanks HH, yes its fun....and its within walking distance.  I would rather hunt the mining camps nearby but they are somewhat inaccessible and that means a day trip, or at least the better part of a day gone, whereas this place I can walk to in 5 minutes and no one has ever detected it before because it is somewhat hidden, no one knew the layer of military occupation had been exposed by some 1940's earthwork, and its nice and clean, except for what were the deeper targets.

It is an abandoned airfield that the army came and cleared back in the 1940's leaving just the earliest stuff.  There are many other locales nearby worth hunting too, but most of those are sifter territory because the piles are a foot or more deep and loaded with iron .... and other things.
