Go Up Go Down

Ok all, finally, I got a few extra moments to take a pic or two and post them on here!  The main pic is of everything I've found overall.  Not really a lot to speak of, since I'm still trying to get the "science" of using the detector.  But, I guess I haven't done bad for a newbie.  Now that today is the last day of the county fair, I'm hoping that in the morning when Stringfrenzy and I get off work, we can hit the fairgrounds and see what all we can come up with!  More pics will surely follow this.  The interesting finds have to be the couple tokens I found.  There is $4.30 worth of clad coins.  The ring in the pic I found at a local beach...too bad it's not real gold or real stones.  Looks like a cheap Avon ring or something to that effect.  But, a nice find overall.  I was happy, just ask String!  Let me know what you think!!

I think you are off to a good start with a variety of finds. You'll be finding older items and real gold rings - the more you go out with the detector, the more you'll understand it. Hope you found lots of goodies at the fair!

He's doing just fine with finds and moving right along very well.  The tokens are pretty neat.

I've noticed that sometimes, I'm having a hard time telling the difference between pop tabs and nickels and whether or not when it comes up in the pop cap/tab/iron range, if it's really that, or something gold.  I've yet to master this!!  Any suggestions?  (I know String and I love digging up all those pulltabs!)  I'm thinking that I'll probably stay with using my Garrett Ace250 until the start of next summer, maybe longer, then move to get something a little better...and we all know what that means, more expensive!  Smiley

If any of you wanna help me with the pop tab dilemma, please, by all means, share your knowledge!!

In my experience with my GTAx 1000 by Garrett I had gotten to a point where I could tell a fair share of the time wether I was picking up a nickel or a pulltab by how "smooth" the signal was.  A lot of the time with my Garrett if i could narrow the target field and go slow the pulltab would have a slightly broken signal to me.  I would still dig these from time to times though due to the fact that the more you hear a particular signal and dig to see what the item was that gave the signal and see where it came up on your scale the better idea you will get of what you're digging before you actually dig.  Nickels are slightly difficult to find for some since they come up in the range that they do.  It's still not foolproof for me either but then again that could be why some people go into the field with the "dig it all" attitude....if a person goes into the field with the dig it all attitude then sure you're liable to dig some trash but then again when you leave that day you at least aren't leaving wondering if you should have dug those signals you didn't.  Sometimes I dig it all, sometimes I don't but all the time I'm in the field is a good time.

There are many tips and methods about nickels and pulltabs from people.  Some work better than others for certain machines possible.  I would also like to hear what other people have to say on this subject as well.

I guess the way I look at it is if i dig a pulltab then I won't have to dig it the next time I am in that spot and the pulltab even though the detectorists "bane" can have a good purpose.  Sometimes I put them in with my recycled cans and other times I put them in a container for the school and other organizational drives for the Ronald McDonald house.
