foreboding feeling eh? do a little research on the area you found them .. oh and how old is the tree .. mebe it was used for hangings? ( [exhausted]could be interesting).. otherwise it might just have been a picnic spot and some bad tempered person used to sit there alot to calm down after his wife wound him up Bang Head .. then he lost his money too  Cry (under the tree)... oh well their loss is now your gain  Grin

seem like a nice find to keep, i agree  Smiley Smiley

Keep on searching .. who knows what you'll find next  Clapp

Great finds, jewelry is nice, but I love those types of finds best! Thank you for taking the extra time to tell us more in your post. There is more there to be had, Good luck, and enjoy.

I dont know how much you know about cleaning coins. But having ruined many myself, Ive found less is more. I soak in hot soapy water (dawn dish soap only) and use a soft baby toothbrush while its soapy. After that it gets complicated and risky as to metal types. But you cant go wrong if you stop with hot water and dish soap. (No risk of damaging it). Just a word of caution.

Thanks All!
Avision,  Ive smoked more than a few coppers myself with supposedly 'safe' methods.
now I think the best method is spray rinse, dry, & soft cloth polish, on common old copper.
often the detail is just in the patina.
silver is different, especially crusty saltwater ones like the Pine.
This had a few seconds of electrol to remove some of the encrustation.
I wanted a somewhat visually pleasing coin, and the value is relatively low in their condition ,
while to me, both Mass silvers are priceless.
I appreciate the great advice!  HH Everyone  Wink

For cleaning silver coins; have you ever used the spit and aluminium foil method? I recently used it on an 1816 George III silver sixpence and
it came up a treat. Got real hot and smelled like bad eggs at first but it did no dammage.

Thanks Christoph,
That's one fine looking GIII Silver!   Th foil method worked great  Wink
I will try this on some other silvers, I like these as they are...
Actually, I'm gonna try it on the Portugese,  The Mass Silvers are encrusted rather than just blackened,
I would like to get an even silver tone on that Cross   Grin
                              Great Finds to you!   Herbie.

In the downloads section, under the DIY area, you will find plans and a nice article on building and using an electrolysis type of cleaner that works quite well on silver coins.
