I went back to the relic spot I hunted and posted about the relic hunt with the GPS mapping feature. This time hit right in the middle of the big hole I left on the map... Well this will tell it better...

I found these about 10 yards from each other.. the one in better condition was at 9 inches.. The signal was quiet but repeated and was small.. When I scanned over it I just heard a blip so I stopped and went really slow over it and the signal cleared up.

Didn't realize it at the time, but these are two different types. Both appear to have the UNITED STATES**** backmarks

I also found an epaulet scale.. this is the 3 one from this area..Wish I could find the holder. The large lead on the left might be a smashed Enfield or a minnie but cant tell.. It is huge. Only had 2 hours so I am heading back to cover some other places missed in the circle..

very nice.....and I can see how the initial reaction would be that they are the same type. Not often that we get a chance to see pre-Civil War buttons in such good shape.

Hi GH,
Are those buttons 1812 type or later? They resemble the ones I find here in Canada but all mine do not have eagles only the letters...US.

No there are 1820's to 1840's. If yours have just US they could be older.. can you tell me what the backmark says and I can try to date them...
