Hmmm, perhaps a nice sized dish lined with aluminium foil would do the same trick?  Undecided

Less junk to dig next time...less "bits and bob."

Go Up Go Down

Spot on there my man! I have a theory about the area that I have been detecting. Most of the WWII .303 and .30 projectiles sit on a layer of clay that lies below the sand and they were laid down between 1939 and 1945. At present, the projectiles make detecting the area very hard work.

Once most of the scrap is removed; perhaps we can get down to detecting pre-1939 objects that may be resting below the clay layer. I have, to date, removed some 60kg of projectiles and the darned things keep a coming.  Shocked

As for Sunday's 1939 sixpence; it was totally unresponsive to the old spit and aluminium foil trick! Perhaps the unresponsiveness was due to the fact that the coin is only 50% silver. Lemon juice had a far better cleaning effect on it.  Smiley
