 Detecting

Went out a week ago to a Saxon site that has been hunted to death but produces Saxon Silver coins...so worth the extra effort. As luck would have it I managed to pull this coin right at the edge of the field.

It's a Saxon Silver Sceat (penny) from the Northumbrian Ruler Eadberht, AD 737-738, during this time England was divided up into Kingdoms, Saxon coins are the target of most UK detectorists, and can be worth a good chunk of cash Shocked There are many varieties,  this one has the Fantastic Animal on the obverse.. Quadruped (stylised stag... with the legend of the ruler on the reverse ...EOTBERHTVS.

The coin is 13mm in diameter, and is Silver..
