Go Up Go Down

Went to a park with wife and our two granddaughters (we were babysitting today No no!). My 4-years old one was bored and asked to go to a close by park. So, hey while wife took care of the girls, I went for a two-hour hunt. Well, no biggies, park is over hunted and almost dry, but there is always something to find. A few bucks in clad, a 1927 Merc that had seen better days, a GF pendant, and I think an old drawer's handle. Now, this is what was interesting. My BH Pioneer 505 registered the pendant solidly within the gold range  Undecided . It did not look like solid gold to me, but because it was time to leave, I gave it a closer look at home. The gold test revealed it was GF with copper as the base metal. It was interesting that the BH 505 ringed it as gold because a GF piece actually carries a layer of gold (in this case 10kt gold as the test revealed). Therefore, the importance of the gold test when there are no marks suggesting solid gold. Great. Hopefully I will find solid gold before the MD season ends for me  Rider

Very cool finds.  I am not supprised that you identified your bobble as gold.  As what ever is on the outside of an object is what the decector should see.  The field is generated on the surface of the object and will not necessarily show the base metal.

That's right! The piece was just partially buried, thus probably recently lost. Therefore, the gold layer was still solid enough to make the machine register it.

Thanks Homie. No, no marks at all. That is why I decided to run the acid test on it. It came out to be a 10K layer for the 14K test ate out the gold streak rubbed on the stone.
