Go Up Go Down

The beaches have been sanding in and fairly target dead lately, so this morning I decided to hit a local park.  An hour and half hunt saw $16.60NZ in coins, spinning top, ceramic heart (eye ball find), figurine, and a metal frog of all things.  But also got a 925 earring and a HUGE spinner ring.  The ring is big enough to fit over my thumb so am calling it for a toe ring, just can't work out why the designer made it into a spinner.  Still 14g of silver so I'm happy.

The silver got me thinking, this park holds a weekly outdoor market so is extremely trashy.  To hunt for cash with the AT-Pro I normally notch out anything below 70 which avoids 90% of the junk and saves time.  But the silver being there means gold probably is as well (no precious metal jewelry is sold at the market so these are drops). It could be worth my while hunting down to 45 on the dial.  Will take me a long time to clear the junk in the park but winters coming up and the tourists are leaving so I will have the time.

Nice going!. You could pick a small area and dig everything just to get an idea whats down there. Pick a spot that looks good but also won't look too bad after you plow it up with a lot of finds!  Wink

I am extremely wary about this spot looking like it has been dug since it is right beside a drinking establishment and the main road.  Only ever hunted it with sensitivity turned right down to pick up the shallow target and then popped with a screwdriver, and since I got my Pro-Pointer have only popped targets that are with the pro-pointers range of depth from the surface.

But if I crank the detector up there are heaps of good sounding targets deeper then I have been hunting.  So I might take your idea but instead of in one small spot, wait for the wet weather to start and only dig deep (turfing 3 sides etc) targets every 10 feet or so.  This way I will get an idea of what is underground and if a positive can continue once a week every few months when the ground isn't as dry.  Should lessen any risk of damage to the grounds.
