What a incredible day!
Had extended an open invite, and this group from Roswell New Mexico called the Pecos Valley Adventure League, took me up on the offer. So they drove about 3 hours, spent the night in Moriarty NM then this morning we met (1st time) up and headed to a 10 acre site that I've told ya'll about.
First of all I got to say that these folks are & were the prime examples of how treasure hunters should be. It was such a pleasure not only meeting them, but hunting with them also. A great bunch of folks.
Some of their finds today include:
1-14K plain gold band
1- Silver Spur w/buckle
1-broken silver baby spoon
1-broken regular silver teaspoon
1-remains of belt buckle
3-various marbles
1-horseshoe
1/2-stone grinding wheel
1-silver butter knife
3-wheaties from the 20's?
1-old bottle
various plate & pottery shards
assorted rusted iron objects
WHEW!! and most of this was found within a 10' section of ground outside under what would have been an old fashioned wooden plank porch, up against the stone foundation that's been buried for almost 100 years. I ain't even begun to excavate the "inside" of this old adobe RR Grand Lodge from about 1880-1930'ish. There's still about 40-50' left & 3' tall by 18" thick of buried stone foundation to expose running N-S and about 30' wide, 3' tall X 18" running E-W.
this former adobe building was built by the Santa Fe RR as a "Grand Lodge" for folks to vacation at and was luxurious by standards of the day. Then in the 30's in burned down, the RR never re-built and the land went to private owners.
that's just a part of its history. That don't include the Apaches, Spanish Conquistadors, stagecoaches, RR's, Local folks & more. This 10 acre site is awesome!
Anyone else want to stop & visit and dig? We ain't even touched this place yet! Give me a jingle.
