Hey Karl,
Well, our weather not only broke somewhat, it got up to 56 here today- outdid the poor weatherman's forcast. Cheesy
Actually got out some this afternoon. Didn't really find anything, just messed around trying to figure this MD out. I've already made up my mind bofore Spring's over I'm going to buy a better one. This one I have is one of those cheapies from Heartland. My wife got it for me at Christmas to see if I would like to do it.
She's already in agreement that I need to step up a notch to one with a screen display on it. Probably a Coinmaster or Garret. I'm going to go see a local dealer and check him out.
Anyway, good huntin' buddy.   Mike

Mike , I don't blame u for wanting to step up a notch, but try that one for a while and use all the features

figure out what u like and don't like , make u a list, use it get to know it, and figure it out, then when ur

done with your list , you will have a better idea of what u want and don't want !!

Just my opinion.

Go Up Go Down

Hi Mike, get yourself down to a local dealer if you have one and play with some detectors since the weather is bad. I do comparisons on Kellyco also, it has most major detectors you can see on paper what has what.

One of my detectors is similar to yours. Besides being light and good on battery's, it is pretty good just surface scanning parking lots and parks for whats near or on top of the ground. I don't dig deeper than three inches unless I have a really good signal.

Normally most would agree to take time and learn your detector. I will go against that grain and say do some research, play with a few other detectors, and get what you can afford to buy. I don't think there is very much to learn from your new machine. What you have is a pin pointer on a stick. It was made for finding nails in the dirt. But I still use mine in certain situations, and wont part with it. Most of your bargain detectors fall into this category.

Know your soil conditions there. Figure out if you want auto ground balancing or manual balance, or both. Do you just want a tone only, or a spiffy display. I sure could have used a better discriminating machine as I'm in the market for one myself.

PM me and I'll bore you with what I have found, being new and all. But I have narrowed it down to a few machines that should perform well in my area.

I'm embarrassed to say, but my pin pointer finds more coin than the machine I have. Yes the machine is hot when it comes to a park and whats up top. But I want something that will go 10 inches or deeper, and have some sort of VDI (visual Display) that I can get an idea of what I am digging.  I'm still learning and my machine inst even close on anything but silver.

Speaking of which I found a pocket dump today.....whooo hoo.

Between Valentines day this month. My wife's birthday next month, the new detector has to wait.

Sounds like mike wants to get serious so lets help him out.

Hi Mike,

I took out my Harbor Freight 6 function machine today. It cost a whole $39.00 dollars. It actually was a gift from my brother didn't cost me a dime.

Your machine has that great analog indicator, if it metal or mineral. Today was one of those times I needed that, and not the led meter, and the beeps.

The new place has so much signal it confuses my zilog computer chip machine...........so the no motion vlf we have cut through all the bs.

I set the machine to only detect a nickle, and not a pull tab. When I hit a target, it sang load and pretty as long as I kept it over the target. The coil is so small I don't need a pin pointer.

Here is a twenty minute hunt below.

CASCA,
I went and saw the Local White's dealer today and played witha Coinmaster and really like it. I told him it was between the CM or a Garret. He offered to let me bring the CM and try it out. But, I told him no, that I'd be back and pay cash for it.
Looks like you had a little fun today.

Yea, I never even considered a Whites, they were old school, and what could they offer? I was wrong. After many hours of reading, comparing, and looking at finds, the Whites has the lowest complaints I have come across. Garret is the second most machine. Whites owner are happy with thier choice, even if they are pricey.

I need a gold machine and am saving up for a Whites GMT or MXT, for gold on or near the top of the ground. I am considering a Fisher F4 for my next coin shooter. The Fisher F4 has all the things in a detector I want for coin shooting. Im just not sure it will handle our soil here. I know the Teseros dont do well.

When you hit a virgin spot, you will know it.

I like to use a nickle for setting my machine. If its too trashy and I have dug a dozen pull tabs with no luck, I discriminate them out, and set it on silver only. Some days I just barely turn on the machine, no discrimination, and walk and swing. Anything 2 inches and on top is mine. This is great for after large events, or parking lots and large trees.......hint.

Make sure to post your results. I use photobucket for pictures posting.
