I have a "traced" schematic for a Troy X-5 detector that I would like to trade for a factory or similar copy of a White's Classic IDX schematic.

Fair enough, I need a schematic for a Classic IDX, produce one or tell me where to find it.

Olerelic and I are on the same page here, when it comes to asking for schematics to trade. The reason is that it's really hard work properly reverse engineering/tracing schematics for the machine.

That said, how accurate is the schematic traced? How readable is it - is there part numbers for everything? Is there a block diagram? Was a schematic capture program used or is it hand drawn? Is there a parts list or BOM (bill of materials)for the board? Is there good, clear, bright pictures of the front and back of the board? Pictures and accurate pin out of the coil connector? Up close pictures of the unit in general? Is there accurate description of the coil more than just it's "resistance" (inductance, capacitance, resonant frequencies, q, wire size used in winding - which I have seen very little of with the schematics I have seen around). Is there source code for the mcu? I really think this is why the "relic hawk" project has been floundering on the geotech boards - the original schematic was not traced accurately, and the modified schematic was not really good. The one area that really needs improving is accurate coil data - I'd like to see a bandsaw used on them after a detailed electrical analysis, with photos of the insides. Yes it's destructive, but they can be replaced as there are sources for most coils.

I do not have the White IDX pro schematic to trade, and I am not too interested in the troy 5. I think all modern detectors are essentially the same with the front end, it's the computer programming that's mostly different (but this is a generalization) these days. I do not think there is much to be gained by reversing most modern detectors - unless they happen to have an unusually good performance in some area or other unique feature.  I consider machines of the late eighties and early nineties to be the ones we should be looking at. This is probably the "golden age" before microcomputer controlled machines took over.

I think that there needs to be ways to renumerate those who have done a really good job of tracing a machine (meeting all the points as I outlined in my first paragraph). Though there has to be enough of us to do so. Also, if there is enough of us doing this, we may want to find a way to buy machines to tear down i.e. share the cost amongst everyone.  Or pay back the person who bought the machine if they provided really good details as I outlined above. But there may not be enough of us around to do this at this point. Perhaps the person could be paid in "forum gold." Maybe there could be a "bounty" price for a schematic, that once it is met, it could be put in the download section with a

Cornelius,

I make a post in the TRADE forum and you tell me not to use the word trade. I can see the reference in your avatar "marching to the beat of a different drummer" with your comments to my second post in a TRADE forum. You know what you can do with your comments and this forum.
I certainly don't need to post on a forum with you as moderator!
Thanks to all the kind posters who offered to help.

Olerelic,

the TRADE forum is for TRADING physical items such as gear or collectables WHILE all intellectual properties ought to be offered here for FREE not asking for anything in exchange. We are all volunteers and hobyists doing this for fun. So if you have anything for share post it here. If you need something ask for it.

Regards,

Christian

A hard copy of a schematic is a physical property and if one doesn't want to "trade" on a 1 for 1 basis, they certainly don't have to even bother with a reply. I produced the schematic by reverse engineering it, so it is not intellectual property.
No problem, this is my last post.
