I'm still laughing! What is the problem with the pinpointing PDill? Is the target off centre of coil or what? I'm just asking because  I only use the machines pinpoint as a rough guide and then I just slowly keep digging down to the target and just keep scanning, I must say though I don't own a pinpointer and it is a real pain in the butt at times.

Pgill, The eliptical coil is responsible for the pinpoint problem. I have the same thing with the DD coil on my Fisher. I carry a garret pro-pointer with me. On coin size targets I pinpoint with it before I start digging. Lay it on its size and drag it over the ground and it covers a swath about 4 inches wide. It will pick up a coin size object at 3 inches. Where you can use a shovel to dig with I use the dig-and-kick method. That is you dig it out and then kick the dirt around until the coin is isolated. Remember, the pattern the DD coil makes is narrow front to back and wide side to side. When you pinpoint you get better results when you. pinpoint front to back.

Pgill, That is the same story that the valve changer told me. The univac was down more than it was up and he spent all his time changing valves. (You know we call them 'tubes' in the U.S. I think Lee DeForest called them tubes.) gambol  Wise

I have been watching videos where a guy has been using the pro pointer and he also scans the top of the ground for the target, then he digs...... this works fantastic. I have a whites pin pointer, but cannot search for an item the way the pro pointer does. The whites is not that sensitive, you have to be very close to the object to pin point it. That is why I am trying to learn the garret pin point. The down side of that is that the garret uses lots of battery when using the pointer  Thumbs Down

You are right about tubes, valves are what I know them by, but the same thing. I think that job must of been boring  No no!

All that you guys have to do is buy a Minelab Excalibur and you will not have to worry about anything, well the only thing that you will worry about is your friends getting upset when you go over the same area that they have just walked and you find meag things that their machines do not pick up. Great

Taylor, The Ace250 I battle with pinpointing, but my Tesoro, I can pinpoint and dig straight to the find.... I guess it is just practice, but it does take up a lot of time and batteries  No no!
