Viking my detector works well with rock, it did find X  Funny Grin Funny  Welcome

I have thought about that idea with the Xray / scanner, but would make it robotic on wheels. The cops use a type of xray for checking in the ground (GPR) but it does not actually show you the picture, just the disturbance in the ground.... Vome on X, make the unit for us  Great

Hi, guys!  Thanks for the welcome.  I did try to leave a post with pictures (re-sized) yesterday, but it all timed out and dumped my message, too!

A little about myself:  started detecting/threasure hunting in 1972.  Started coin shooting, then moved through the whole range of TH'ing activities like bottles, ghost towning, relics, light prospecting & panning, and now, at age 65  Wise I have pretty much returned to coin shooting (and jewelry) as my main focus again.  Made the loop, I guess!  Along the way I wrote a number of articles for TH'ing magazines like Treasure, Lost Treasure, Western & Eastern Treasures, Treasure Search and a few others under the name R. Neil Simmons.  Haven't had anything published for a few years, but I do have a couple I'm working on in my computer now.  Viet Nam vet, married for 42+ years, 2 kids, 4 grandkids, 3 Bassett Hounds!

My finds this year were minimal.  Here in the Blue Mountains we had a long, cold, wet Spring.  At the end of June the weather warmed up and I broke my heel.   Shocked  Thumbs Down  For three months I was laid up in an air boot, foot immobilized with it propped up most of the time.  When I finally got the air boot off and some ability to walk and get out with my detector the weather started getting colder and wetter and windier...  then it started snowing!  Cry  Since then it has been below freezing most nights and a lot of days, now.  I did get a couple of outings in before and after, but not enough!

I'll try to get some pictures posted again later.

Again, Thanks for the warm welcome!  I'll be back! (spoken in an Arnold manner!)

Hey Arfieboy.
Thanks for the intro, I'm Viking. Married , 2 kids.....Girl 5 and Boy 4..... Own business 40 years old and been detecting for about 5 years now. I am the SA agent for Fisher and Teknetics( but this is a sideline business).
I am pretty spoilt living in Cape Town, our weather is pretty good most of the time. Only thing we have that is not so nice is the South Easter, a devil of a wind and really bad for wind chill factor if you are hunting on the coast.
Anyway I have been pretty lucky when it comes to treasure hunting, I have had some really good finds both at the beach and inland. Loads of history here.
Summer is here again and I will be on the beach at sunrise tomorrow , which is at 5:28am.
I'll post tomorrow evening with pics.
Wonders where the other 2 ladies are tonight
Regards
V

Hi Arfieboy,

I am married with 0 kids  Great working at Johannesburg water (just got my 21 years watch and certificate) Living in a small town called Westonaria, been detecting for a number of years now with a best find of a Kruger gold pond 1893.

Now down to some more business  Welcome

Went detecting yesterday at a blockhouse with Xavier, I thought this place would be worked out, but what a mistake  Shocked I think we were the first to detect there.

Well I found a major find of a spear head with X finding a QVC British button. I also found a 1928 Silver 3 Pence very close to X who now says that I stole his coin  Kiss Kiss Kiss Kiss He is just jealous that he finds all the wire and other #$%^  Funny

On a serious note  Funny X is a great guy to detect with  Great I am having a great time with him, thanks X  Great Great

Right finally , that's a fantastic hunt! I'd be more than pleased with that guys. Just remember Pgill, we are a rare breed in this country. There's not a hell of a lot of hunters around.
I was looking at how we started this whole thing, saying we need a club , I think I'm having a change of heart there though. I feel a little more greedy now! I actually don't really want every tom dick and harry running around with a detector, funny really seeing as how I sell them.
I would bet my bottom dollar that most of the good sites out there are Virgin Ground.
Let the gold flow out of the ground like an endless fountain of honey! Hehehe,  Clapp

ps , will post todays hunt pics later

Those are some nice finds, Pgill!  I would be more than happy with finds like that.  I can see how X might think you stole his coin!   Grin    Nice to get to know a little about you guys.  Good luck with your hunting this summer...  while I bask in the drifts of  snow and frozen ground!   Great       Detecting

Thanks for the great comments. Viking, I agree, we are blessed to have such great sites to hunt. Anyway, just had to frame the spear head, so here is the latest photo. I have cleaned the spear and placed wax onto it to keep it good.
