Consultant hopeful Niah National Park gets Unesco recognition due to archeological significance
via Dayak Daily, 19 November 2023: Sarawak Museum consultant Dr. Franca Cole, with her extensive experience in conservation and archaeology, is hopeful that Niah National Park will gain UNESCO World Heritage Site status in the coming year. The park, renowned for its significant archaeological sites like the Niah Caves, is a focus of Sarawak's heritage and cultural history. The nomination process for the park is progressing positively, with the Sarawak Forestry Corporation having already submitted a dossier for UNESCO's initial assessment. Sarawak Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah has expressed optimism about the park's nomination, highlighting its potential as Sarawak's second UNESCO World Heritage Site
