In the Walton Beach news, there is an article about a map with 45 "x" on it - whether it is real or what - I don"t know. There is a picture of the map & the writer of the article does say that one of the x was a real location.

"stumbled upon a map and requested his expertise in seeing if an expedition was feasible.

Remember now, the bay was all but empty of development so it was a real hunt.

After working the site, they claim to have found a box-like shape which was preserved in the muddy goop. When it was brought aboard, it dissolved. But wrapped in what was deteriorating leather bags was a darkened and hardened stuck-together clump. More diving brought forth more clusters. After washing the rock-like bricks, they discovered that they were bars that measured two inches by nine inches thick. They had uncovered 54 bars of silver at a weight of 117 pounds.  Then four very small cannons were reportedly found."

Fun story but I would put my skepticals on for this one personally.

I would like to think it was real but the art on that map would make me date it very recently much newer even than 1950s. I also have a hard time believing a story about finding 54 bars and not renting another boat? I suppose it was only silver but still...   Grin

Perhaps someone collected local treasure legends and marked them. With 45 marks you are bound to find something hehe.
