Well that's just typical, find something of historical value and all you get in return are problems, no wonder people who find these items don't tell anyone about them or sell them to private collectors or worst melt them down to sell the gold.

Thanks Carl, I was just thinking that it's just that attitude the get detectorists (Not in dictionary yet, should be added) to do stupid things with historical finds, and then it all ends up giving us all a bad name. They themselves that "Want to protect history" (archaeological finds) are doing more damage than good and I think that they really should revue there attitude toward us.

Hello all

This is actually what is happening in France when war is declared between the discoverers and the people from the Ministry of culture (DRAC). It is far from the Protocol established in England with the Treasure Act.
Be saying that searching with a metal detector is akin to piracy, and removed from their natural environment finds erase archaeological evidence; What then about the farmer who by working his field, swim and disperses a jar full of coins. It provided a looter?  Great

It would be better if they rewrote the law to accommodate both archeologists and detectorists. By the way, you can just add it to your own dictionary by right clicking on it, then save to dictionary, then the spelling watcher on the site won't bother you anymore. Smiley

A bad day at gold prospecting or metal detecting is better than a good day at work.

Yes I know but what I meant was that it's not in the Oxford dictionary. I think that some bureaucrats are like some of my doctors, they were taught in one way and they walk around for the rest of their lives with blinders. I told one of my doctors that I used honey to treat my wound and that after three days of treatment I could see a difference, she argued with me on the subject telling me that it was not the honey that did the job but the chemo therapy so I told her that I also thought that it was the case and that I stopped the treatment but days later the problem was starting again, hell I think that I should know better after all it's my face were talking about not her's.

Xavier,

You were correct about the honey. There is something in that that prevents wounds from getting infected and speeds healing. check out this link:

Hey Xavier,

this's the difference between an enlightened spirit and obscurantist. (An obscurantist advocates and defends an attitude of denial of knowledge. It refuses to recognize for real demonstrated things. It poses restrictions in the dissemination of knowledge. It is against the spread of new theories).
