Homefire,

Here on Lake Champlain we have been battleing the invasion of these mussls going on 20 years now.  You can't step off my dock or shore without water shoes or your feet get ripped open.
Have noticed a couple interesting things though:
While diving off the small island in front of my house, I watched schools of yellow perch and sheepshead piking the mussels off the rocks and feeding on them.  The sheepshead that we are taking weigh upwards to 10 lbs.
With some water systems that draw out of the lake, hooking up a small electric current kept the mussels from attaching to the water lines.
Both the Lake Champlain Maritime museum, and the Echo Science center have been studying these for years and have some interesting data.
The one good thing I have seen over the years is the improved clarity of the water, each mussel filters upward to 300 gallons of water per day.  Multiply that by millions of the little creatures, and we can now see bottom in 15-20 feet.

Never understood how come Man thinks they can Control Everything.

Invasive mussels would have gotten there some way or another if the could.

Someone should out law Invasive Man?

Mussels are good Eats!    And the Problem Is?

I  would agree about the taste of mussels, but these are the size of my pinky.  But the fish sure do like them.

Yes they are the zebra mussels.  Boat launches now have attendents and hose setups to clean your boat and trailer before you leave.
