I'm from East Anglia. People are forever digging up cool stuff around there.
My mum has 4 gold roman coins that a friend gave her. She had found them while weeding in her back yard in Chignal Smealey in Essex
My mum took them to the local museum in Chelmsford and the curators near peed themselves. They sent them to the Natural History Museum in London and the curators there kept them for about 8 months while doing a bunch of testing and research on them. They sent back the coins with a thick document containing all of their findings, including history of who they were minted under, who the guy on the coin was - lots of fun stuff. I believe they carbon dated and possibly x-rayed them too.
I'll have to see if she can send me a photo to post on here.
Paul
