I have the opposite opinion about this whole nighthawk BS. I don't honestly think that it's that much of a problem and have my doubts about the "Study".
Whenever I here about a "Study" I always study the study.
Most treasure hunters or detectorists I know would have nothing to do with stealing artifacts from a national monument or private land. I think this is all propaganda against Treasure Hunters to help put more limits on our hobby's and create more government regulations / fines/ fee's.
The same crap is being done all the time here in the USA only now we have no more money left to finance more government regulations!
Just more fear mongering to bring attention to a made up problem so everyone will vote yes to have more jail time and fines, oh and yes more metal detecting police, what a crock!
Ive seen so many fake studies done here in the interest of more taxes and bigger government it makes me question every study I see from a neutral perspective and once I dig the facts out for myself its always a blatant Lie!
Question the people that did the study and how they reached those conclusions that's how you find out who is digging the holes. Ive also heard about agents / Archaeologists themselves digging holes and claiming it was nighthawks to try and get more funds for their depts as their jobs may be coming to an end or they would like a raise.
Besides you have plenty of cameras all over the place in Britian just take a few down and put them up at those sites and see who is digging in the dark. You may be surprised who you will find.
