These problems will continue due to the depressed economies around the world.  As long as they can make more money by stealing these treasures than working at a job this will continue.  As long as the countries of the world stumble onward toward socialism with its moral relativist thinking the more workers will be taxed to support ineffecient and ever more oppressive governments, this problem will continue and the police could find themselves out-numbered and out-gunned by the thieves.

Yeh but it's not a grasp I'd like to have AB and the present republican leadership doesn't exactly give me any confidence that they will be able to change anything very soon if ever.  Boehners message to the prez should be simple, "You have our plan for spending cuts and revenue enhancement now cough up yours, if we don't get yours within 24 hrs. I will take it you have no plan and will work things out without your input!"  But I don't think he has the balls to do anything like that over the cliff we will go.

Yea I agree , its not the economy its robbery pure and simple. Back in the 80"s when time's were good people were bulldozing sites all over the US stealing Indian artifacts. Its just greed.

Because his post concerned the "gov" increasing their enforcementof these laws when the "gov" is the cause in the first place.  When, for what ever reason, the governments of the world keep their populations poor then they should expect this kind of activity to be carried out.  Thievery it may be but in their opinion they are simply trying to keep body and soul together.

Problems like this lead to Bad Karma on the Hobby Guy.

The same thing is happening with the Prospectors.

Everyone with a Metal Detector becomes a Bad Man.

Everyone out there with a dredge is Rapping the Fish and Killing the Rivers.

Hell most of these folks don't even use metal detectors  they just dig big butt holes in the known areas.

This is not in the USA but you can bet your Petunia it will effect what we do here.

The Places there talking about are out in the Boon Docks with no one around for miles months at a time and they have the time to do the damage.

Articles like this are all just yet another push to put controls on every thing in reach.

I agree there are Bad Mans out there.

Hell there are folks out there that will sell you a  gizmo with a couple of Out dated TV antennas on a box Empty or  with a few HodgePodge components in it for a few BOB!

Call them by any other Name is fine with me but DO NOT assoiciat what I do with the Same.

This Artical was based on something that happened in Sri Lanka!

They don't seem to have control on what goes on there.

Hell they don't have control on a lot of things there.

Please  Don't equate what happens there with What goes on here.

Metal detector folks have a pile of rules to follow with the  1906 Antiquities Act just a Start.

You Don't want to even get into the Mining Laws if you can't handle this one.

You're right Seldom I am sad, sad that the form of government I spent 20 yrs. of my protecting is being turned on it's ear and President Kennedy's famous quote is being turned 180°.  Little I ain't, the mid-section has expanded over the last of my 69 yrs. with the assistance of a knee with half the cartilage missing and MS.
