There are numerous reports and material on gold and silver mines that were once located in Llano County and are lost today. I know for certain, because I have seen it, that there was a mine near the Llano River in the vicinity of present day Kingsland. It is on private property but the entrance can still be seen and there is also pictographs on the entrance that portray the Spanish working it.
There were two gold mines located on the eastern slope of Sharp's Peak, just south of the City of Llano, that were in operation in the early 1900s. One can read about these two latter ones in "Llano: Gem of the Hill Country".
Inside the city limits, there is a local swimming area known as the Blue Hole, which is a deep natural well, and where legends claim that the Spanish had dumped some gold into after being ambushed by Apaches.
