Good quality turquoise would definitely be worth finding.   I've spent some time in Cerrillos (on the back road between Albuquerque and Santa Fe) and actually got to visit the mine where most of the Turquoise sold by Tiffany's had been mined.   We were even able to see where native Americans had mined the turquoise prior to the europeans "discovering" the mine.   Unfortunately that particular mine is now on private property and built over, but there are still several smaller mines in the area.  This Turquoise Mountain in California would be a humdinger of a find.
