"A metal detector enthusiast in Cumbria has discovered a rare Roman bronze helmet complete with face-mask."
That's one of the nicest finds I've seen in a long time. Sue

Sadly there's a bit of a row going on about this at the moment.
One "archeologist" has a blog describing detectorists as "looters" and "hoiking stuff from the soil for profit" and accusing the finder of this of "having it restored".
Sour grapes I reckon.................

Hello Sue

It was an amazing discovery. the Helmet is only one of four discovered in Britain.

I saw it on the world news on the TV.

Rare Roman helmet found in Cumbria auctioned for ?2m

The helmet was unearthed by a metal detector enthusiast in Crosby Garrett, near Kirkby Stephen, in May.

That's such an awesome find - I stare at the pictures and try to imagine what it must have been like to find it. I'm not sure how much ?2m is, but I know it's far more than the estimated value earlier.

Hi Sue,  it fetched just over 2.2million pounds sterling, thats just under $4million. With my luck I would have taken it to the scrap yard and accepted five dollars.  lol

I don't think thats a question of luck mate. There are lots of libraries around so when you find an object of such look it up then act.
