Bandits buried $40000 in newly minted twenty-dollar gold coins in 1874. They buried the coins in a dry well in the Palo Duro Canyon, which is in the Palo Duro State Park, eight miles northeast of Wayside. Source is the GPAA Claims Club Membership Mining Guide.

Palo Duro Canyon is a sizeable area to search for a well, after all it did manage to keep the Commanches hidden from the cavalry for a long time.   Still it might be a good story to research.  Which year's GPAA guide is that from?

I don't know about this one. Where were these coins stolen from?. Plus the value of these would be staggering, Current gold prices, vintage gold coins etc.
good luck on this hunt, and if you do locate this treasure, Id sure keep it to myself! remember you have in your possession of stolen money. My thinking is
BIG Brother would have something to say! Good Luck & As Always Best Wishes ,,Rob
