Is Anyone doing anything or Knows the Panamint Mnts , the eastside, in Ca.'s, Death Valley Area?
I have a general description of the location of a Huge Cavern.   Shocked
It was described to me, found by an Old Timer, who told me, That it was SO! Large and went back SO! far, that it scared him!
He never got the chance to fully explore it!  Cry
I have/know the approximate location and I will be looking for it on this trip!
In fact, if I leave as scheduled, in the next couple of weeks, I may, make it one of my first stops!

Toolbox diver:
Apparently you're not familiar with the Great Basin Area !
It is roughly 600 miles long, 2-300 wide ..
It was once an inland sea!
Even the Early Spanish, in the late 1500's, recorded it as a SEA!
Of all of the Rivers that drain in it, only ONE river drains out...
Surrounded by mnts, east & west and Full of cave/caverns !
It is also, full of Underground rivers and lakes!
Most caves and caverns are are unknown!
A Great Example : Kokoweef !
Please!
Give me a little credit!
I have been TH'ing long even to know the Common "Ins and Outs"!
I am well aware of the, and a Member of "The National Spelunk. Society"!
Don't you think that I had already checked the common sources for any available info?
Heck!
I even have "posts" on several TH & Prospecting sites for information on ANY! Caves/Caverns in So. Ca.,
These kinds of resources may be new to you!
But!
As you get farther into TH'ing you'll come across alot of resources like these!
I have covered just about all of them over the many , many yrs that I have been TH'ing & Prospecting !!

sorry I was just trying to help...I am in Pennsylvania not in Calif, I just figured maybe one of the local chapters of the NSS might be able to help It's hard to believe that all the cavers out there and no one has ever explorred it.  Come on Bill, I guess you will know the answer for sure when you find it and while exploring the cave thinking you are the first one to see this just as you find a coke can or a marker on the wall like Kilroy was here...Smiley

TBD,
He's not in Ca. either. I just spoke to Emmet Harder the other day about a lost mine in the Panamints. Emmet prospected, and lived in the Panamints for many, many years. He rediscovered the old Lost Morman mine, Siberian Reds lost ledge, and numerous mines of his own.  He covered every inch of those mountains, and wrote a great book about the Panamints, but never mentioned any natural cave system.

Then has it been sealed up???  It's hard to believe that a giant cavern just disappeared.

ToolBoxDiver:
I never said anything about  " THE! ENTRANCE" of the cave/cavern being LARGE! !
AS most "cavers/spelunkers, know,
Most Cave & Cavern Entrances are small openings that get larger as & after, you go in !
This is the case here!
If You think that all of the large caverns have aready been found...
IE: known by The N.S.S. ....
There is a Brand New Cavern System, Just found!
That has been opened up this year, or last ?,  outside of Benson, Az..
Made into a State Park, Because of it's importance and Size!
It is located not far off I-10 !
The NSS didn't have it on thier records!

They discovered those caves years ago. The public is just now becoming aware of them.
