Go Up Go Down

June 2 & 3 at Reynolds Lodge, Lake Shawnee, Topeka KS

If anyone in the central area is interested, I have the brochure with schedule of events, hunt fees, map, etc. I went once several years ago - total newbie to that sort of detecting & riled pros who do nothing but travel the country for these events & the prizes.  Smiley Sue

I'm sending my payment tomorrow for this year's hunt. It'll be May 31 this year. I've never done this sort of thing and figure that I'll be able to meet some new people. Been detecting for about a year and have only run into 3 other detectorists. Surely there should be a few there.

Lots of people were there when I went - the Topeka club is sponsoring it so you'll meet them. They'll probably have displays of area finds so you should find that inspiring. You can win prizes, silver rounds, etc. I'll give you a hint - the coins/targets are just barely in the dirt so you don't dig - swing that coil like you've chugged several cans of Red Bull and just go for the beep - pinpointing takes too long. If I were you, I'd practice detecting like a maniac  Smiley Toss a lot of coins in your yard and find them. It's nothing like regular detecting - coins are freshly planted so there's no "aging" with soil contact. I couldn't have been more annoying if I'd have tried - I keep getting invitations, but I don't think they realize who I am or maybe they are just willing to give me another chance  Wink Don't dig, take headphones, don't meander around at the final hunt, pay in advance so they don't have to go buy more coins, etc and you'll fit in just fine plus meet some nice people.

So no digging required, huh?  This ought to be interesting.

No digging in the usual way - you'll need something to flip the coins out with. Take whatever you are accustomed to /comfortable using. Between the organized hunts, people can detect around the area. I enjoyed seeing all the different brands & models of metal detectors. The local club hosts were really helpful with tips and advice, too. Little rough the 1st day as a newbie, but I returned the 2nd day, did real well and had a great time.

Well, I feel as though you've helped me already. I'll have to do my best, as this year's event is only one day.  Thanks for your help. I'm definitely looking forward to the 31st.  Hope I get my money's worth. Detecting
