Smiley Found what appears to be a copper coin that has a date of 1801.  Need to clean the rest of the coin to see what it is.  It is about the size of a nickle.  Any Idea what I have?  Also any suggestion on how to clean the coin?

If you have not cleaned yet, Do NOT clean it....at least not beyond a careful soaking in distilled water, a quick rinse off, and a gentle pat dry.   It's ok to clean common date/low value coins, but you don't want to go cleaning anything that might have value, and this one falls into that category.  Don't clean it before you have it appraised (unless you plan on keeping it in your own collection and you don't care what you do to its value  Cool )

Sorry for hopeful wishes, but after getting a closer look at the coin it is an 1901.  Was hard to tell if it was an 8 or 9.
