Here's another coin I got years ago from my uncle who said he got it in change at a NJ Turnpike toll plaza. It has what looks to be a "T" stamped in it to the right of the indian's feet. Also, above the head there's a mark that shows a silvery grey color metal underneath it. It weighs 13.4 grams on my scale. Any opinions would be helpful.
Thanks, Mike in NJ

Sure do see the lettering. Way off. If it was conterfeited way back then would still be pretty cool.
It was given to me 35-40 years ago. Thanks for the link. Appreciate it.

A good local coin dealer ought to be able to give you a value, even if it's a fake.  Still could have a nice value!

 Hello everyone.
I've accually dug one just like that. Apparently there were a few companys who pumped out reproductions of colonial coins, possibly for education puposes. One such company was in Delphos,OH, where I found mine.  Very cool coin though. Even if it's not original!

Indeed, it is a replica.

Here are two genuine specimens from my collection for comparison; 1787 and 1788.

Even if they are reproductions, they are still very interesting. Smiley

Interesting, yes. But problematic too.  As was the case with the OP, folks come across these replicas and aren't sure if they're genuine or not.  I've seen cases where family members inherit supposed windfall treasures, and are disappointed to find out they're not worth anything.  I've also seen many cases where these items are put up for auction on ebay or other places, and buyers are unaware they are bidding on replicas.  Many of these specimens were produced prior to the Hobby Protection Act of 1973, and hence have no stamp that indicates COPY on them.

I realize it may seem like these aren't much harm, but they are a huge problem in the numismatic world.

For more info on the Hobby Protection Act, see:
