I went to Des Moines, Iowa to see our daughter and I detected in a park for a couple of hours and found the same type of stuff I find here in Connecticut - modern change only.  Next time I'll try to located an older looking park or school and try that.

Greg, East Hartford CT

There sure is a lot of the modern stuff out there(and pull tabs!!!). I've been thinking of going to the local historical society to look at old maps, plat books, etc., to find better, less trashy, place to hunt. I do like hunt the parkways(area between the sidewalk and curb)in town here in MN.. Find out from you city hall if it's okay because the city owns it first though. And, if people as you to stop I am nice and say something to the affect,"Sure, not a problem.", and find another area. I've never had a problem with the law and there's some excellent finds!! I would think CT. would be even better than around here because your state has been populated a lot longer than MN. has. I lived in Old Saybrook until I was 8 years old. I lived a block from the ocean, I have visited a couple of times and LOVE the ocean! Anyway, good luck finding some old coins!
