Can someone tell me something about this coin. Is it worth something or what? The number seven seems to be doubled on the top portion and the two eights on top from the 1889 seem to be filed. Talk to me somebody?

Hey Coinzapper, I'm new to this forum, but I've been collecting coins for a long time. Every coin I get in change spends a few seconds under my 16X loupe. I have seen some like this and it is my understanding that this is what is refered to as "hub doubling". At least what I can make out in the pictures. It also looks like a worn out die struck the coin, causing "die cracks". Unfortunatley, It's not worth much over face value. This is just my opinion,so you may want to hold on to it until an expert sees it.         Paleo10kbc

I look at all my change to in a case like yours I put it in a 2x2 holder mark what it is and hope one day it's worth something. I take a few to a coin show from time and have made a few buck not much but a little. When you can get 1 dollar for a dime you ahead of the game.
