Go Up Go Down

A number of years ago I was detecting in a park, here in the Midwest, and popped up the first, nicer, 1916D  mercury dime  in the outfield of the ball diamond.  At that time, I didn't know enough about caring for silver coins so I decided to clean it with simichrome polish.  Also, notice the two nicks I made with my poker.  What a dummy!!!  As you can notice, it is still a 1916D and has good detail and would be a beautiful coin without the nicks.   A couple of years later I popped up the second  1916D in AG condition in the front yard of a house.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Nice finds, I bet those made your day. I just seen one of these dimes for the 1st time a couple of months ago...My wife got it back in some change from a booth at a local festival. I was so excited when i seen it.

Thanks for sharing and HH Freedom420

yes they are rare indeed. they only made 264000 of those mercs from 1916d and just in G-4 they are worth a lot more than 10 cent. great finds, catbird....

Absolutly amazing. With the low mintage,I bet theres no more than a few hundred buried in all of the U.S.  And you found two of them! Way to go!
