say if i had a new detector that i was willing to take apart and get some good pictures of, could it be reverse engineered? if so where could you locate all the componets for it,or would they be the same componets as any other detector????thank everyone

reverse engenearing is all well and good if a company is playing catch up, but that just makes a copy possible, if every company did that then the technolagy would not advance , look how far we have come since the 70's , we need more dreamers and development, and more of what i call "nutter / genius" people, it's poss them that have advanced our world the most.

Reverse Engineering to build a personal use detector I think would be over looked by the originator of said detector.

Making the information available to others for the same purpose would be grounds for a law suet for sure.

Some manufacturers use house Numbers on components to deter this. You may know it's a Op amp but will never figure out the specs.

Mine lab, likes to paint there boards with a Comforment Non Conductive paint to hide component nomenclatures and ID.

If you tried to use the Clone Detector in any fashion for commercial gain, your dead meat in the court of law.

What would be the purpose?

There are Clone versions of the Tesoro detector available on the net and no actions have been taken.

A. Tesoro does not see it as a threat.

B. They are not quite the same.

Thank God, Winter is almost over!  LOL!

never thought of copyright infringement ,
here is a thought , based on a go faster plug in box for my car ,
manifactures could set all components in black resin , just like my old go faster box,
stops prying eyes looking in , good heat disapation for components , water proof , reduces vibration / dry joint problems,
etc etc.................
ps , the go faster box for my car was only in black resin the hide the fact it was 2 resistors in a box sold for ?40
now that's one hell of a profit !!
but resin is good , i like it , just as long as no modifications / corections have to be made later........

An easier way to learn about the technology of today is to go to the US Patent Office and and search for patents on metal detectors. Legal, too.

checking patents is ok, had a look a couple of days ago, problem is that quite often patents tend to be "quite loose" on there description so quite hard to develop anything from it.
the general idea is there ,it has to be, but nothing is exact, if it was exact then,

a: the cat would be out of the bag,

b: minor changes could be made and then it would be a new design which would not infringe previous copyright,

loose descriptions offer more protection to the copyright.

just had a flash back to the 80's
i remember whenever you bought an electrical / electronic product the manual that came with it ALWAYS had a schematic
on the back page , poss for later repair by a tech,
or poss becouse they had to by law , i don't know,
but wouldn't life be easy if that still happened,
if 100 people on here purchased 100 different detectors,
photocopyied the schematics and posted them for us all,
ah life would be a dream,
oh well , back to the world of supression and secrecy.
