Hey I was just wondering if anybody knows of good places to go panning in Washington/ Seattle area, if you don't own property? Appreciate any suggestions thanks!

Washington isn't really as bad as it seems. There is a club or two in your area besides the GPAA. They have claims and the sort. Check out the area around Sultan.

i just joined the site,it seems wa.state has added new rules for prospecting.in the past we would take our gear up the canyon dig some dirt and pan.now you have to have your gold and fish book on your person and local permmision or you face fines..sulton basin was good,and close but i believe is nearly all private.to be safe i'd go over the hump to kittitas and national forest on the upper cle elem or teanaway where my friend and i did fairly well in the past,don't forget your gold and fish book

Just getting back into prospecting again and was reading the Gold & Fish booklet. It looks like you only need the rules on you if you're on a stream that is time regulated. If it's on a stream that you can prospect year-round, then you don't need it on you. Interesting rule that's for sure...not quite sure I see the logic in it, but whatdya gonna do.

It is not whether or not the steam is "time regulated" it is the activity that is regulated. Don't be mistaken, you can pan and sluice year around, however it is where you are getting the material, and what equipment that you are using that is being watched. If you are using a sluice with a riffle area under 3 square feet, and digging your material. You must classify your material at the site, and you can only get material from either the "frequent scour zone" or a "stable slope".

Read that book thoroughly, and enjoy.

Their really isn't that much reading in there, but it can be confusing. Make sure you refer to ALL of the pictures and read ALL of the definitions. If you need help understanding anything be sure and ask me. I have a pretty good grasp on these laws, and if I don't know then I can usually find out fairly easily.
