lildave;

My Ozark grammy never used the term /smulter pan/, what is that kind of pan?? Looks like part of the handle of a bed warmer pan (which has a name I cant remember), am I close?

Ive been looking at this, for a couple days, and thats the best I can figure. Those bed warmers were often ALL brass with a long wood handle, carrying more brass, usually made to hang on the wall.

a smulter is like a pan on the end of a solid rod, they were used many years ago to help clean out the burned wood,kinda like a shovel.

I would think for a handle like that
the brass would be thick and heavy.

The thickness of this brass object
is about 1/16 inch or so. It is
hollow inside.

I am still thinkin lamp part.

Thanks fer yur help,

Tabdog

It looks like a crank wheel handle off a valve wheel or something similar.   The wheel would have a shaft, with a stem sticking out. Your piece would go over the stem to allow it to rotate as you crank the handle.  Google Crank Wheel images, ands you will see what I am talking about.

i was thinking light fixture piece, or lamp as mentioned

usually light fixtures are several pieces, held together by a top and and bottom screw, wiring going through the middle...
if that makes sense...so the middle pieces would be held by compression, which is what it looks like to me.

just my .02
