I don't know the specifics (how many bits, etc). I would also like a guess at the value. As you can see, it is in very good shape but was pretty worn when it was lost.

Hi,
It's a "2 Reale", guesswork on value $50 - $100.
Did you find it? (there are a LOT of fake "reale" coins) any way you might be able to weigh it?
(in grammes).......

Hi UMW,
I think your coin is a "Pistereen" from Spain, below is a pix of one found about 12 years ago dated 1718 it is the oldest coin we have found here in Canada.
It is also a "battle site" coin found with the larger one dated 1810.

Thanks for everyone's help. There are so many types of these, I could not figure it out.

It's real. My brother found it near an old spring last year using a White's XLT on a farm in Carroll county MD.

Beginners luck, he probably has under 100 hours on his machine and was using a stock program.

I will weigh it and post the results for others the next time I see my brother (but that will be a month or two).

Hey langstoy,

Good luck on your Alaskan trip.. R U going to Gains Creek or up with the GPAA???  I've been to both and maybe able to offer some tips... I used to, many years ago... dredged with George Massey, the founder of the GPAA.. I haven't seen the boys in many years... I think Tom was about 15 when I saw him last... Anyway, hit me up if you want some first hand info....

Klondike Ike

Klondike Ike,
We are flying to Fairbanks on the 5th and stay overnight at the Holiday Inn Express. At 9am on the 6th, Dean Race (Gold Fever Prospecting) picks us up and we then fly to Chicken, Alaska. We then get in the Forty Mile River and head about 30 miles East to his Gold Camp. He has a hovercraft and some boats to haul 8 prospectors and their gear. We will sleep in a 10x10 tent on cots. Dean feeds us breakfast, packs us a sack lunch, then again feeds us a dinner-everyday.  Yummy The equipment available to use is several size dredges, sluice boxes, high bankers, pans, blue bowls, etc. and it's bring your own detectors. You keep what you find. Our first week is $1800 for the wife and I, the second week is $2000 for the both. Dean Race has prospected this area for over 16 years and has 20 miles of claims along the Forty Mile River. This area is just below the Klondike Gold Rush Territory. There were some trips available through eBay. Dean Race also has trips available through his "Gold Fever Prospecting" website, where he also sells just about anything related to prospecting.
We can't wait. Dean said the gold in the area was flour to flakes mostly. We will also try to get to a spot where there are some nuggets to detect. We're taking our wetsuits because the water temperature is from 55 to 59 degrees these two weeks. Dean says it warms up later in the Summer. We've done just a few days panning in Idaho Springs and Fairplay, Colorado. We also tried dry panning in the desert areas of Arizona's dry washes. This is one to cross off our bucket list. If we have good luck it will be  Kiss . If it's not so good, it will be  Violent. So wish us well!  Beer Chug I've attached a picture of one of our three pans from Chad Watkin's claim in Fairplay, Colorado. He run a prospecting company called "Tin Pan Alley". I hope all this info is correct, we're just recently retired and getting our feet wet.(Literally) I will post our finds when we return. Dean has had people return every year since he started and we may be going back ourselves.
