I have had a couple of post disappear lately but its a 50/50 chance its  just me, not clicking post.

So it is hammered into wood and line or wire/rope is threaded through the hole?

Maybe What kind of metal is it and about how old? could be a tent stake???

NOW I know why it disappeared.........it wasn't wrapped in enough garlic or splashed with enough holy water the first time.

Hi Lee!

I know exactly what that is!
I've got loads of them in my garden, which has a wall surrounding an old victorian "walled garden".
Basically it's a stake for "climbing plants".
It's hammered into the mortar between the bricks of the wall and twine threaded through it for the plants to climb up.
I'll go take some pics....

Could it be a part of the "arms" for a big clock or the mount for a lightning-conductor wire?

Ohh nice.

Here in sweden we use the exactly same "spikes" to thread the earth wire for the lightning-conductor wiring going up on top of the roofs on old churches. Smiley
