I found this while just walking around in an area where some old homesteads used to be, was a surface find. Not sure what metal is under it or what it was even used for. The bend in the handle is odd and in the spoon at the bend on both sides is what appears to have been a hole that is filled in with corrosion. Any info or ways to maybe clean it would rock, thanks.

My first thought is that it is not a spoon (at least not of the dining variety), but a part of a piece of machinery.   The hole is where this part would connect into the larger machine, probably on some sort of rotating wheel or similar device with a cog that would regularly push down the end away from the "spoon", which in turn would cause the "spoon" to lift or move something in its cup.

Heard from the landowner that there used to be an old man in the area this was found in that raised sugar cane and sold it to moonshiners that lived close by also. Possible that this could be part of one of the stills? I'm not familiar with the parts of one. From the patina or corrosion on it, any clue as to the metal underneath and how to clean it up?

Interesting find, thanks for sharing it!  Personally, I have no clue what it is.                                  Detecting

Could be a spoon to some sort of water wheel.  Not sure where you found it or if there is water flowing near by, but if there is an old mine, or there was a need for an old hydralic water wheel it may explain it.

Looks like part of an old door latch.  It's upside down in the 1st pic.

I go with the Door Latch.

The Thumb Button part to unlock the door.   Yep!
