Go Up Go Down

 Hello folks,

Was out at "The Springs" today and dug up Detecting this metal thing. Anyone have any ideas as to what it may be? Looks like a handle of some sorts goes into the end. Is this something a person would cook with?

thanks

McIntosh

Hello
I am pretty sure what it is, and its not for cooking with. Its a base of a old mop, or more likely the push-broom mop.  The type you might see used in long hard floor hallways that have the very wide, mop-like sweep base.
Hope this solves the mystery Smiley

Sure seems to be small for a mop head. How would the mop attach and about how old is this thing?

thanks again

Mc

That's the "former" of a mop head. It forms and shapes the bulb of massed strands which are tied together just below the triangle. The bottom bit is where the handle screws in. It gives strength to the mop when you drag it across the floor.

It's all about that moment when metal that hasn't seen the light of day for generations frees itself from the soil and presents itself to me.

Where did you find it? Interesting find. You never know what's going to pop up from the ground.

Try the holder for an old fuller brush dust mop/dry mop  like the one here

Selling Fuller brush having been one of the ways my Dad tried to make a living between stints in the military, I've seen a few dust mops and mops in my life, not to mention more kinds of brushes than I care to think about.
