to me they look like chain tensions for tire chains... missing a few hooks and that is why it was lost ??

interesting thylord, i'll check that out as well.  thanks BA for the advice, i'll dive even more into Smiley
can't find any pictures of tire chains that match this.  this is fairly small and could be worn like a necklace if one wanted to.

The people at the museum might be able to identify it or maybe talk to the older people in the area maybe you can find someone who worked there and can tell you what it was used for. It looks like it was used to put tension on something kind of like the tensioners on tire chains. Foiled

yeah the town where this is near is almost extinct, it's actually on a list of utah ghost towns although a few people still live there.  i'll have to scope out those that are still left out there, great suggestion

yeah, utah's know for "the greatest snow on earth"...but i don't know about the tire chain theory, it does not look like anything to sustain a beating at all.  i still haven't been able to find anything out on it

Hey TJ,

You may be able to mail these people. Looks like they own an old flour mill and I bet they could identify what you have there. Here is the email..
