Chris, how about letting us know what size it is? This could be a lot of things and without length and width, it's impossible to get in the right area.

looking forward to the picture of the back, but my first guess is going to be that it is either part of the locking clasp a diary or journal or it's a decorative element from a small box (which includes the kind homefire is talking about)
